Vast and powerful empire of the hobgoblins, Khazrod Hôg has been expanding the last 50 years from their mountain capital of Riata Thûn to the west and south by conquering every nation in its way. Their ruler, cruel king Gamûl Barag the Destroyer treats the occupied nations with ill hand and human peasants work as slaves under the tyranny in the vast fields producing food for the armies. Most of them has never known any other life though tales tell of better times.
Now only Icordia, the last Empire of the humans, stands in its way, frontier villages being sacked and burned by the goblin armies. Corona, the capital of Icordia, has recently met a disaster when the old emperor Tiberius was assassinated. Though nobody knows for sure, it is widely believed to be a work by the goblin assassins. The Emperor did not die without a heir though, but the imperial princess has been missing since the death of her father. This has created a power vacuum, which two of Icordias ancient noble families try to fill. Tsavonias, led by prince Cadur the Bold and Karalins led by prince Mshar are already starting a bloody civil war to determine who will rule the ruins of Icordia.
On the south, elves of Ael Thayr still fight the goblins in a merciless guerilla warfare in their home forest, but are nothing but overwhelmed by the thousands of hobgoblin legions. Their last fortress, hidden city of Mor Khani in the thickest parts of their forest is already threatened by a betrayal.
But from the Ruins of Shadaril and the Shattered keep of Shadarites comes an ill wind, which carries death and plague in the form of a large Bat, flying over the fighting powers towards the Barren Lands of the North.
In the mountain monastery of the Order, the Council of Three has found a lost Prophecy, saying that a savior is coming from the oddest place when the Dead Lands fill with life again.
