Vast and powerful empire of the hobgoblins, Khazrod Hôg has been expanding the last 150 years from their mountain capital of Riata Thûn to the west and south by conquering every nation in its way. Their ruler, cruel king Gamûl Barag the Destroyer treats the occupied nations with ill hand and human peasants work as slaves under the tyranny in the vast fields producing food for the armies. Most of the peasants have never known any other life, though tales tell of better times. Since the last Goblin Wars 350 years ago and the destruction of the dwarven race, hobgoblins have ruled supreme and unchallenged.

Now only Icordia, the last Empire of the humans, stands in its way, frontier villages being sacked and burned by the goblin armies. Corona, the capital of Icordia, has recently met a disaster when the old emperor Tiberius was assassinated. Though nobody knows for sure, it is widely believed to be a work by the goblin assassins. The Emperor did not die without a heir though, but the imperial princess has been missing since the death of her father. This has created a power vacuum, which two of Icordias ancient noble families try to fill. Tsavonias, led by prince Cadur the Bold and Karalins led by prince Mshar are already starting a bloody civil war to determine who will rule the ruins of Icordia.

On the south, elves of Ael Thayr still fight the goblins in a merciless guerilla warfare in their home forest, but are nothing but overwhelmed by the thousands of hobgoblin legions stationed in their forest. Their last fortress, hidden city of Mor Khani in the thickest parts of their forest is already threatened by a betrayal from inside. But the elves have more to worry when their ruler, warrior-king Garan'dil goes missing after a raid.

But from the Ruins of Shadaril of Shadarites comes an ill wind, which carries death and destruction in the form of a large bat-winged creature, flying over the fighting nations towards the Barren Lands of the North. Shadarite masters, the malevolent devils of the Hells, have sent their acolytes after the Creature of Shadaril, to find out where it went, keen to know more about the creature's escape from it's imprisonment in the Scars of Shadaril.

In the mountain monastery of the Order, the Council of Three is uncovering an ancient prophecy that tells of the end of the world. To learn more, the Council has sent their best novices in the search for the missing parts of the full Prophecy of Khanum.

Meanwhile, a mixed group of prisoners with very different backgrounds are held in the hobgoblin prison dungeon of Khaar Morah, waiting for their death sentences to be carried on. About a half an hour ago, guards posted on the doors left in a hurry. Shouts and distant echoes of battle had been heard for a while when a series of violent explosion shook the entire fortess, collapsing parts of the walls and dropping huge stones from the ceiling. Last quake ripped the cell door from its hinges, and the road to freedom looms ahead...
